The Beloved, the British synth-pop duo comprising husband & wife Jon and Helena Marsh, released their last album to date, "X", in With "X", the Beloved got more sophisticated, and dipped deeper into rich synthesiser textures & longer songs/5(22).

Jan 02,  · Even though the structure is mostly typical pop (except Crystal Wave, an instrumental DJ journey), I find the sound very original and distinct. The lyrics are sentimental but somehow not sappy or annoying. Instead there is a sense of sincerity I credit to Jon's mellow, unforced vocal style. X is a notch darker than other Beloved albums/5().

The Beloved (like Erasure) ultimately makes the mistake of confusing beats for hooks. The tunes on X just aren't memorable, making the album another in a long line of dance-pop throwaways. For a much better introduction to the Beloved, and for a greater insight into this group's capabilities, stick with the fine Beloved debut Happiness.
